Common questions (in order of frequency).
How do I activate my license?
Open Eyrie β Settings β License. Paste the license key Lemon Squeezy emailed you after purchase. The first activation requires an internet connection. After that, Eyrie validates online once every 14 days; in between you can use the app fully offline.
I lost my license key β how do I get it back?
Email [email protected] with the email you used to purchase. We'll resend your key. (Lemon Squeezy also has a "License keys" lookup at app.lemonsqueezy.com/my-orders if you'd rather self-serve.)
How do I move Eyrie to a new Mac?
On the old Mac, Settings β License β "Deactivate this Mac." Then activate on the new Mac with the same key. Each license supports 5 simultaneous activations.
Where do I paste my Anthropic / OpenAI key?
Settings β AI β API Key. The key is stored in your macOS Keychain, never logged, never sent anywhere except directly to the provider's API.
How do I connect Eyrie to Claude Desktop?
Settings β MCP β "Install in Claude Desktop." Eyrie writes the right config into Claude's settings file. Restart Claude Desktop. You'll see Eyrie's tools in the MCP tools list. Full walkthrough β
Search isn't finding obvious things β how do I rebuild the index?
Help menu β Reindex Embeddings. This drops the search index and rebuilds from scratch. Takes 5-30 seconds for a thousand notes. If problems persist, send us a Diagnostic Log.
How do I sync my notes across devices?
Eyrie reads any folder, including iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Syncthing, or Git. Most people put their Markdown folder in iCloud Drive β it just works. Eyrie doesn't ship its own sync because we'd rather use the sync you already trust.
Does Eyrie work offline?
Yes, fully. Editor, vault index, search, Smart Categories all run locally. AI features require a connection to your chosen provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Claude Desktop via MCP).
How do automatic updates work?
Eyrie uses Sparkle. On launch (and once every 24 hours), it checks tryeyrie.com/appcast.xml for a newer version. If found, you get a native macOS update dialog. Click "Install Update" and Eyrie swaps itself and relaunches. You can also force-check via the Eyrie menu β Check for Updates.
How do I cancel?
You don't β Eyrie is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Quit the app and delete it whenever you want. Your Markdown files stay on your disk.
Can I get a refund?
Yes β within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked. Email [email protected] with your order number.

Three menu items that help you (and us) debug fast:
- Help β Reindex Embeddings β drops and rebuilds the search index. Use when search results feel stale or missing.
- Help β Export Diagnostic Log β saves a redacted log to your Desktop. Attach to support emails for fastest resolution.
- Help β Show Welcomeβ¦ β re-opens the onboarding flow if you want to re-do AI key setup or MCP install.
Things we can't help with.
We're honest about scope:
- Anthropic / OpenAI API issues β if Claude is down or rate-limiting your key, that's a vendor issue. Eyrie surfaces the error, but the fix is on their side.
- Cloud sync conflicts β we don't ship sync, so we can't debug iCloud or Dropbox specifically. Usually the fix is to close Eyrie on one device, let sync settle, then re-open.
- Migrations from other apps β we can advise (see our Obsidian and Notion migration guides), but the export step happens in the other app, not Eyrie.
